Several years ago in San Jose, Pacbell ran fiber telephone lines through a number of neighborhoods. They then offered people TV, phone, and internet through the lines. Worked great. One of my friends was a tester. He had super bandwidth, tons of TV channels, and his phone line all coming in via one line.
Technically, I suppose it's not really considered DSL, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
The project was abandoned because PacBell wanted SJ to pay for the fiber installation and they said no.
