Drive Partition with XP

A friend of mine tells me his system runs better now that his hard drive has been split up. I was wondering if I could part my 40gb hard drive? Is there any software that will do the partitioning for me? Will this improve my systems performance?
I am currently running XP Pro on a P4 1.5 with 256 RAM. Any advice would be great...

I don't know about making your system faster but it's not a bad idea to partition your HDD just so as you can save stuff on another drive, just in case you need to format your C: drive and reload XP.

There a few partition programs on the market, one is called Partition Magic 7 another one is System Commander 2000, just to name a couple. Hope that helps.
