DNS forwarders

Hello,

I have two ISPs coming into my building, cable and dsl. The dsl is a backup line. Today the cable line failed and dsl picked up the work. however, nslookup, run on client or server, did not reliably resolve domain names. I have four forwarders set up:
CABLE DNS1
DSL DNS1
CABLE DNS2
DSL DNS2

It seemed like since the first one failed that our DNS server did not continue with any other forwarders... I had to rearrange them:
DSL DNS1
DSL DNS2
CABLE DNS1
CABLE DNS2

to get nslookup to work.

Any ideas?

is it windows by any chance? This is a common issue with it's dns client.

I'd suggest a linux/bsd machine or virtual machine (innotek virtualbox is free and comparible to vmware) with something like dnscache running for the LAN and use that instead.

Alternatively take a look at opendns.org(com?) and setup your dns server to use those instead.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
