Disable XP Hardware Recognition

I want to install certain drivers for my geforce2 pro. However, when I remove the device from device manager and reboot, xp automatically detects the device and installs the ms driver for it. How can I disable xp from doing this so I can freshly install the driver, instead of installing over the xp one?

Go to the Services window (Administrative Tools -> Services). There you can disable the Shell Hardware Detection service.

Ep, glad to see you come back and tidy up...did want to ask a one day favor, I want to enhance my resume , was hoping you could make me administrator for a day, if so, take me right off since I won't be here to do anything, and don't know the slightest about the board, but it would be nice putting "served administrator osnn", if can do, THANKS
