Constant hard drive access. Any ideas?

When my pc has loaded xp there seems to be hdd access evrey second or so. Is there anythin in xp that would make it do this?

I may be incorrect but that sounds like you may have a low memory problem. I used to have an old P133 system with 16MB RAM in and every so often the HDD would go crazy and I found out that the system had started to run on virtual memory. How much physical RAM is in your system? I would look here first.

I've got 512mb ddr ram so that shouldn't be a problem.

Any ideas

does this happen eveyday or just sometimes? if it just happens "sometimes" its just windows optomizing itself... It goes through and defrags your HD by software usage.... If its happening all the time then the problem lies else where
