Connection speed on XP

When i connect to the internet, there is usually an icon on the bottom right of the screen, which i can double-click to bring up the internet connection speed. It is not there on XP. Does anyone know how i can get it back? Thanks!

go to network connections, then go to the properties for your dialup connection. There should be a box at the bottom saying ` show icon in notification are when connected`, click on the box and it should work !

My icon shows a connection speed of 115.2 kbps, which is the maximum speed use when setting up the connection. How do i get it to show the actual (!) connection speed?

When u find out DC,let me know,my connection is always at 576kbps,but the actual is probably lower.

Got the icon back. I had switched off one of the services found in the administrative tools of the control panel.
