I would like to close the lid without it going to sleep, i want the screen to turn off, there is no need to refresh the LCD when i am connected with a USB keyboard and mouse and a Sony 19' screen.

not sure - but wouldn't you have to interfere with the micro-switch?

I can see exactly what your need is though - should depend on the video provision I would imagine - you want to look at the display properties, if you can disable the one on board then you should be able to send it to sleep - mine seems to have an option on CTRL ALT F11..... but then it's an e-Machines

This is an iBook, i can do it perfectly well with my Toshiba and FBSD.

There is indeed a hack out there .. not sure where, but most people found that their iBooks overheated so becareful :)

The iBook releases heat up through the keyboard, it's really not a good idea to try and close it whilst it's running... unless you like kernel panics of course.

Ah, that would explain why my keyboard is always nice and warm. Okay thanks for the info.

Options you could consider:

1. Just lower the brightness on the iBook, hold F1 until you can barely see what's going on.

2. Use screen spanning doctor (http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html) to enable multi monitor support on the iBook, therefore not having to turn it off.

3. Use an Apple Script which is supposed to be safer than the above patch (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030727112641398) however I've never tried either, and therefore can't vouch for them either working or being safe. (although apparently, if it does go tits up, you can fix it.)

4. Use Sleepless (http://www.alxsoft.com/mac/sleepless.html) to make the iBook stay awake when closed, as mentioned before (and on the sleepless site) it can cause heat problems.

I'll keep a look out for any other options though :)

(edit) this seems to be exactly what you're after.. but it does seem a pain in the ****, especially if you want to do it frequently

Option 1 is what i am doing at the moment. I like the idea of having a primary screen at a higher resolution.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
