can windows read other drives like linux?

Is it possible to read files on a linux partition (ext2,ext3) like linux can mount windows? is there a way to mount and unmount a "hidden drive" in windows quickly without having to go through a rigerous (spelling) changeing of things?

Don't think so..

When you install a linux distro, simply create a fat32 partition. It will be accessible from both OS without too much trouble.. ext3 are "like" ntfs.. they are protected filesystem, but with proper setting (i'm speaking about ntfs) it can be read & write from other system.

There is exlporer2fs which [I think] can read ext2 and ext3 filesystems from Windows. never tried it though.

Yeah, Explore2fs will do the trick for ext2/ext3 partitions. It has a Windows Explorer like interface, so it's easy enough to set up and use as well.

Ever since I started using ReiserFS, I've been using rfstool, which is a command-line utility, and not quite as user-friendly as Explore2fs, but it works nicely.

you can use PartitionMagic to browse any file system it supports. this include ext2, ext3 ... etc.
