Burner failing

Lately I've been having trouble burning audio CD (mp3s files). The files I am attempting to burn are not corrupt. I own a Gateway Laptop and I haven't had trouble burning projects in the past. I use Nero 7 Ultra edition and basically it will make it all the way to the end of the burn process and fail. It is resulting in me throwing away many blank CD-Rs and its getting a bit frustrating. Anybody have any advice or knowledge they can share with me?

That the entire burn log of the last audio CD I attempted to burn...think I got about 57 % complete before it failed....

mm... i really dont know what went wrong there.. but, if u got a cdrw (so u dont continue to waste cdrs 😛) u can try burning it with feurio

its the best prog for audio cds (and the trial is unlimited)

There Sony, there not cheapo CDs...that is one thing that crossed my mind..maybe gateway just sucks..thanks though..I will experiment with different programs and see what happens.

Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

This error is from using media your burner is not compatible with or if you are burning at too high a speed.

Try burning at a slower speed and see what happens.

Price never guarantees quality. I have had good burners that refused to burn quality blanks but worked fine with cheaper others.

Burn errors are media related 95% of the time.

Do the CDRW as mentioned above to check out the hardware. And get something other than Sony. I recommend TDK or Ricoh if you are having problems.

If the burner just doesn;t like the media then slower speeds won't help.

Download a copy of DVDinfo (30 day free trial) and read your blanks. Sony does not make them. They just stamp their name on them and charge twice as much.

Then read a burned CD that has worked in the past. See what the real brands are on the blanks.

DVDinfo will also tell you who really makes your burner. You can then check for firmware updates. Burner firmware updates are valuable because they add new media compatibility and improve performance with older media.

There used to be a free version of something similar to dvdinfo but I'm having a senior moment on the name.

PS Never buy a big spindle of blanks unless you get some and try them with your burner first.

wowow... 1st of all... u were burning them at 24x?! thats too much... try 4x instead
i didnt read that before, and im not sure if it should make the whole thing fail... but still, even if completes, at 24x u're gonna get a lot of skippin and stuff

also.. mm... if he google's his burner's name he could prolly find out (work'd for mine... sony brand but its really a liteon)...

btw.. maybe that way u can also find out which cdr brands work best with it

oh.. and i still recommend feurio to burn ur audio cds... its a really good program

I routinely burn audio cd's at 24x with no problems. If the burner is good and the media is good for the burner then 24x is not too fast.

32x or above you might be pushing your luck with older home entertainemnt cd players.

PS I remembered one cheap cd info reader... Nero has the capability built in under recorder - disk info. Duh!

Ive tried slowing down the burn speed to 12x and its working beautifully...like magic people...I guess thats all it takes..I feel dumb.

I thought slowing down the speed may help as the QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082 is known for problems with media and burning at high speeds.

Something else you may want to try, finding a firmware update for the drive. I was having issues with a specific brands media even though it was the correct speed, so I did some google searches and tracked down a updated firmware, applied it and shabam!

Quanta Storage is the manufacturer but good luck finding firmware for it.

Search QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082 and you will see that lots of people have had problems with that drive and the QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082S as well.

I believe that drive is actually a Samsung.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned that it could possibly be a transfer rate problem. 24x is definitely not too fast to burn a cdr. Could be a combination of a slow hard drive and fragmentation.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
