Bloody Icons!!!

When I was running 98 or ME I could arrange my desktop icons in any order I wanted them in, then right click on the desktop and click on auto arrange icons and they would be lined up nice and straight but still in the same order, with XP I find if I line them up in the order that I want and then try to auto arrange them in the same way it puts all the icons in a different order.
Does anyone know how I can keep my Icons in the order that I want them in?

Right-click on anywhere on your desktop, and choose arrange icons by/ Align to grid. That should fix the problem. I use that to line up my icons and then I disable it because when I restart, the icons will be auto arranged.
