Well, we had a very large storm here today, and one of the casualties was the wife's network card. I started to shut down the computers (mine first, of course ) and when I got to hers, it got to the point of Windows is shutting down (98 machine), and we had a lightening strike in the back yard. It was so close that a musical magnet on the fridge started playing the Coke song.
At any rate, it is fixed now. The scary thing is that we share the internet connection through a crossover cable, so if I had not powered mine down in time, we might have had 2 dead ones. (Can't figure out how it went through mine and didn't cook it though...)
BTW...
Absolutely everything related to the computers here is protected by surge protectors, even the cable. So don't feel a false sense of security...
