Brits to get Windows 7 for £65

I guess it does pay to be a Brit... sometimes :p

Windows 7 Boxes

After confusing customers with European editions and upgrade versions, Britain will be able to buy a full copy of Windows 7 for just £65 – a massive discount on the full price and what Americans will be paying.

At the moment on Amazon.co.uk, a Home Premium version of Windows 7 can be bought for just £64.98 – what the site calls a 57 per cent discount. The Professional version is on sale for £149.98, a discount of 32 per cent, while the Ultimate edition is available for £168.98, a discount of 26 per cent.

Those prices are significantly less than what’s on offer in the US. On Amazon.com, the versions are selling for $199.99 (£121.65), $299.99 (£182.48) and $319.99 (£194.64) – meaning the UK is paying less for Microsoft products than Americans, a change from the usual situation.

Looks like another iPhone issue, this time with deleted email.

“Obviously this is could be a major security issue if you think you deleted something from your iPod but it’s not really deleted,” says Janssen. “You can still search through messages that are deleted. And this isn’t messages that are just recent. I found some messages that are over three or four months old.”

Mac OS X Security Update 2009-004

  • BIND
    CVE-ID: CVE-2009-0696
Available for: Mac OS X v10.4.11, Mac OS X Server v10.4.11, Mac OS X v10.5.8, Mac OS X Server v10.5.8
Impact: A remote attacker may be able to cause the DNS server to unexpectedly terminate
Description: A logic issue in the handling of dynamic DNS update messages may cause an assertion to be triggered. By sending a maliciously crafted update message to the BIND DNS server, a remote attacker may be able to interrupt the BIND service. The issue affects servers which are masters for one or more zones, regardless of whether they accept updates. BIND is included with Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server but it is not enabled by default. This update addresses the issue by properly rejecting messages with a record of type 'ANY' where an assertion would previously have been raised.
