Where to find ntoskrnl.exe?

hey wait guys..he wants that file because he could not apply SP1 he recieved an error about logoo.exe
I think yoyo gave a solution about that delete a line from boot.ini and it will solve your problem!

Octopus are you saying that not get the error when updating to SP1 the boot.ini file needs to like the original?
Is this what it is suppose to look like???

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

PS Without the broken lines that is.

yep he must delete what after /FASTdetect(like yoyo said)
I am having the same problem,I used to change my logon and my boot screens several times.

mine shows this

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /KERNEL=LOGOOS.EXE
C:\="Microsoft Windows"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="(Backup Line) Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Good Morning, Hipster your Boot.ini is the original for Home. To delete what is after fastdetect only works I guess if you used a program to change the bootscreen, which adds some files and edits the boot.ini, leaving the original ntoskrnl.exe alone however. If you manually changed it this may be not sufficient. Are you sure you have no backups around or can get it from a Windows CD.

I use bootxp so that's what has changed the boot.ini. If I disable bootxp & restore my boot.ini to the original I'm hoping that SP1 will install OK.

you'll have to unistall bootxp and other 3rd party programs.
here is what M$ says in its :
Windows XP Service Pack 1 Known Issues-Beta Technology Support:

"Customers will receive this message when trying to install SP1 if they have
installed BootXP, Windows Theme applications or other applications that
replace the Windows kernel. This application replaces the NTOSKRNL.EXE
boot file. Customers may see this same behavior with other theme applications
as well such a Windows Blinds and StyleXP.
Resolution:
Uninstall 3rd party theme program from Control Panel > Add/Remove
Programs. Attempt to reinstall the service pack. If SP1 still fails to reinstall
follow steps 4 – 10 in Q327101. Attempt to install the service pack once you
have completed those steps.""
