after a lot of testing and faaffing about i have come to the conclusion that the other pc will best be served as a storage box, now i have heard of freenas before, just wondering if anyone has used it and would say to use it or get freebsd and use that instead, i know freenas is built on bsd, and i have used freebsd in the past.

test driving it now :) - quite happy with it so far, can it be updated like freebsd using ports tree or do you need to upgrade the whole release as and when new releases are released?

upgrade the whole release. It's based on monowall much life pfsense. You could build the same system by hand but freenas has a pretty UI :)

yes but shame it doesn't pick up a lot of my hardware properly because its freebsd 6.4 based :(

Freebsd 7.2 does, so im having to do the hand configure approach :p - kills some time i suppose :D

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
