ctrl + alt + print scrn just captures the current selected window

Did you check whether any of the applications you have can make screenshots - for instance Irfanview, Coreldraw, Photoimpact,Gimp? Anyhow if you don't have any application that can convert bmp to jpeg and you have more than a single picture on your computer imo you should get Irfanview, it's great and it is free.
