Whenever I try to run an executable from a cd-rom I get an error message;

"WOWEXEC.EXE caused a general protection fault in MMsystem.dll"

Anyone see this before?

I tried adding "drivers=mmsystem.dll" to my system.ini but it didn't change a thing.

please help.....

I have herad of this in win98 or ME but not in XP, you were right editing the system.ini , im suprised that didnt work :(

For some reason when you try to run that exe from your CD, the OS thinks its a 16bit aplication and trys to run WOWEXEC.EXE

have you run the system file checker ?

Command prompt and type : sfc /scannow

Have you added new hardware lately, are all your drivers up to date ?

My Current system.ini :

; for 16-bit app support
[drivers]
wave=mmdrv.dll
timer=timer.drv
[mci]
[driver32]
[386enh]
woafont=dosapp.FON
EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80WOA.FON
EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40WOA.FON
CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80WOA.FON
CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40WOA.FON

After Edit :

; for 16-bit app support
[boot]
drivers=mmsystem.dll
[drivers]
wave=mmdrv.dll
timer=timer.drv
[mci]
[driver32]
[386enh]
woafont=dosapp.FON
EGA80WOA.FON=EGA80WOA.FON
EGA40WOA.FON=EGA40WOA.FON
CGA80WOA.FON=CGA80WOA.FON
CGA40WOA.FON=CGA40WOA.FON

is that what you did ?

Thank you very much.

I forgot to put it under "BOOT"

I still get this problem half the time.......what else could it be?

Did you try waddy's suggestion of running a SFC check? as he stated Windows on Windows subsystem should only load if it's an older 16bit app. And you said it is now happening half the time? does this mean it will work on one cd, then not work on that same cd? or work on half the cd's and not the other?

Sorry for all the Q's just trying to narrow it down :)

I did run the check. It does seem to be on some cds and not others. I dont know if some are 16 bit and some 32, Please ask all the questions you need. this is driving me nutty!!!!!

Here is my system.ini

What is supposed to happen after I run sfc check? It shows a progress bar and then disappears.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
