Does anyone know where I can get some wireless signal repeaters in the UK. I am needing to connect up about three floors of a converted hotel so that everyone in the building can get onto the internet.

If you can provide links and stuff as well I would be grateful.

    Thnx everyone

With a D-Link AirPlus DWL-900AP+ you can use it as a wireless access point, as a point-to-point bridge with another access point, as a point-to-multi-point wireless bridge, as a wireless client, or as a wireless repeater.

    http://dlink.com/products/?pid=22

    It's £74.09 from Amazon.

    Will do the job?

Between the router and this nice bit of kit you should be able to cover the building well enough.

I am getting the phone line, so I will be paying the phone installation, montly phone bill, then ADSL conversion charge and then they will all contribute to the overall ADSL monthly costs.

Enyo if the building is quite old and 3 floors how many do you think we would need to reach everyone?

To be honest with a wireless router that does a 100 meter range (like the DI-614+ - http://dlink.com/products/?pid=20) you may be ok without a repeater depending on the layout and structure of the building and where the everyones computers are going to be placed.

I would imagine you would need no more than 1 repeater to cover the building with a stong signal.

I would get the router in place then with a laptop and a wireless card move around the building and check the signal strengths.

You can then decide if you need a repeater or even just a better antenna (http://dlink.com/products/antennas.asp) and where to place it.

You might want to consider aftermarket high gain antennas also.

Yes, at the very least use WEP 128! See here for more info on what to do.

If he does use the right methods the nerds will just sit there idle unable to leech playing card games with a Star Trek pack of cards.

On a side note im ordering some new kit wireless kit soon, I may go with the D-Link Access point also :p

I have the d link hooked up in my house...man I love wireless

anyway, I don't think he should encrypt, this way we can stop by and have some fun

    really

    no kidding

    no, really, I'm not kidding

anyway, I don't encrypt, and I let some kids hang out to use my dsl

I tild them though that if it gets any kind of crowede, I would...less then three at any night.

also, even though your laptop might be fine on the top floor, there will be interfrance issues anyway

I would repeat regardless, not a big investment...worth it

for instance, in my house, one floor up, I loose the signal once or twice a night

If you dont encrypt every packet you send is in plain text, anyone can sit in range and read it.

It is the one thing and one thing only that is a must, even if you share the connection with the house next door and the kids out front :p

I've just ordered a new wireless router and its your fault Geffy! Got me looking a the new products and i could not resist :)

If you don't encrypt you can:

Get sued for 100's of thousands of dollars by the RIAA

Have the FBI kick in your front door, confiscate your computer equipment and drag you off to jail where you can enjoy sex in all the wrong places.

You have the ISP account and will be liable for any criminal act the "kids" commit.

Not encrypted, not a good idea.

Acting as an ISP, not a good idea.
