    can someone tell me the minimum memory it takes to run windows xp ,as a friend of mine has a old computer which he wants to use for his business accounts etc .at the moment he's got windows 98se on it, and would like to transfer all his ledgers etc to this old machine . the hard drive on the computer has a 10 gig capacity and durion 800 !:rolleyes:

    it's pretty slow with 128, to run moderately you need 256

    I ran it well at 192 Megs RAM for a couple years, using about 4.5 megs of HD for XP and Office. (128+64)

    Of course they've added bloatware since then. Avoid all the latest media player and IE stuff.

    There are streamlined versions where you build a customized install CD. Search the threads in here. I'm pretty sure someone posted about them lately.
