Windows Update FUBAR

    keep getting error code 0x80244001 when trying to Update on this (SP2) machine.... cannot seem to do anything about it - the helop is not helpful - so can anyone help here or shed light?

    Thats beta tho, perhaps try and invoke the automatic update service to start grabbing the files.

    Have you turned off or disabled any services? have any firewall software or a router?
    which version of windows do you have, and disbale your anti-virus

    Yes, but v6 will be different in that:

    - It aims to block out pirated editions...again. Updates will be delivered to all machines (including pirated versions) through Automatic Update though.
    - Integration of several Microsoft products into one single update system. This is the reason for the name change from Windows Update to Microsoft Update. So basically, one site to update Windows, Office etc. :)

    That would be very nice, yes! So tedious to run multiple updates when installing a new machine.

    Agreed. I'm looking forward to that. The current v5a beta is still Windows-only. :)
