I just installed Red Hat 9 on my desktop and is networked via dsl/cable router with my laptop. I can ping my laptop XP pro/linux desktop both ways.. When on the linux box and go to NETWORK SERVERS i can see my workgroup -> Laptop -> shared folders but when I open the terminal and type this:
[root@localhost root]# mount -t smbfs username=MecH //WORKGROUP/Laptop /mnt/Laptop
I get an SMB connection fail. I do not have a password for it. And when i went through the linux netwrok servers it asked me for user and password. I got in only using the user name. BTW i have made a folder /mnt/Laptop.
i have tried multiple ways of typing this command, such as:
[root@localhost root]# mount -t smbfs -o username=MecH, password="" //WORKGROUP/Laptop /mnt/Laptop
[root@localhost root]# mount -t smbfs -o username=MecH //WORKGROUP/Laptop /mnt/Laptop
[root@localhost root]# mount -t smbfs username=MecH //WORKGROUP/Laptop /mnt/Laptop -i xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
any suggestions?
Thanks!
