Windows Registry

AlecStaar,

Sheesh, and you tell me you and I take monster posts...:D

I'll try out your app as soon as I get things squared away here. I finally figured out my problem. Of course that solution led to another small problem, but I think I can live with it. I'm back on XP now for the past couple of days, and no disk errors, so thats cool.

I'm gonna give it another couple day before I try anymore "beta" software, just to make sure my systems up to par.

Later.

I *ALWAYS* like to challenge APK :D

Easy, Big Guy...

I simply meant that I cant test any of your software until I'm sure I got my problems fixed with my computer, which I think I did.

It wouldnt do you any good to test your stuff on my computer if my comps still doing cartwheels, if you get my meaning :D

Cartwheeling computer? Hmmmm I wonder how Dell and Compaq are going to compete with that....:D

Hey Alecc going to try your program again here soon, but a couple things.

When booting up, I hit F8 and looked at my options.

What are: Last Know Good Configuration and Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows Domain Controllers Only)?

Last Known seems to self explanatory, but does it use the recent restore point?

I'm trying to make sure, that IF I get that error again, I can restore and not reinstall everything.

Well, tried the new version, and it's still not saving anything. apk.reg is still blank. Backups still don't work.

Could it be because my %System Root% is E:\WinXP? Or because my partition is NTFS?

did you do a custom and name your windows folder winxp? try creating a windows folder and copying apk.reg into it. I'll bet that's it. I have XP on my D:\ drive, and the program is running well.

Do you have the newest version? Scroll up the thread here, Alec posted a download for his latest one.

Well, when i do a restore in the program it tells me all is well and good. When i do a rescan, the ones that I did the remerge on don't show up.

I did a Regclean run to look at how it configures the file entries, and your's look different.

a couple of examples:

Yours:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinRAR\DialogEditHistory\ExtrPath]
"8"="D:\Downloads\Win2k_XP_v2.0.0919_370"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\COM3\Setup]
"Source Path"="C:\$WIN_NT$.~LS"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Java VM]
"LibsDirectory"="D:\WINDOWS\java\lib"

Regcleans:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\ADCS\CLSID]
@="{89E30300-764D-11d0-B282-00A0C90F56FC}"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AWFile\DefaultIcon]
@="misc.exe,6"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\COLFile\DefaultIcon]
@="misc.exe,6"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Connection Manager Profile\DefaultIcon]
@="D:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\CMMGR32.EXE,1"

Let me try something real quick. I'll run another quick scan with Regclean. Make sure it doesn't pick something up. I'll remerge that file, do another scan and make sure it pulls them back out.

Yeah - Regclean puts them all back and them picks back up on them when I do a rescan.

Alex,

I couldn't resist :D

Testing it now, but one question...

The .reg's in your install folder, am I supposed to install those manually, or does the program do that?

Sorry I'm a little but behind the scenes here :D

Thanks.

BTW, hows the SD patch going? Ready to test?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
