I'm running Windows XP (home) on a new, custom-built computer with with 1 GIG of RAM, 40GIG hard drive, Radeon 9600 Graphics board, Semipron (sp?) processor and an MSI motherboard.
A lot of times when I go to view a folder that has a lot of items in it, it takes FOREVER for the window to build all of the icons for each and every single item in the folder, even when I have it in "list" view. It's especially slow when I am trying to attach a file from MS Outlook: it makes me wait until it builds all of the icons... including the ones that aren't visible in the window yet. Sometimes it'll bounce the window all the way to the end of the directory and make me wait there. It won't even allow me to click on a file or enter a file name until it's done building everything.
Yesterday I just about went crazy trying to view the files on my camera's smart card. It was taking almost 2 minutes to build the thumbnails of the 40 or so pictures I had on the card.
Is it possible that this problem is related to my monitor? I have an LG 19" flat screen and I have the view set to the highest resolution possible (if I go to lower resolutions, text appears out-of-focus).
