Not to sound really retarded, but I have been seeing this all over the place, but nobody really explained what this is for. What does it do, and why would someone need it?

Thanks for any info on this.

UXtheme is used for StyleXP. You need a hacked version of it in order to run StyleXP with the winXP service packs that have leaked.

Actually, UXTheme.dll works fine without StyleXP. You don't need that program at all. Just copy the themes to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\ and it'll show up in the Appearance tab. :)

    Ref: Themes

I copied a luna theme with blue button into the windows-resources-themes folder and it does not show in the appearance tab. Could you possibly explain a little further on this ? thanks

Did you even apply the patched UXTheme.dll? :p

    http://www.tgtsoft.com/downloads/uxthemepatcher.zip

Download that and read the instructions.

    Edit:

I might as well want to say that the patched UXTheme for XP is for XP only! And the patched UXTheme.dll for XP SP1 is for XP SP1 only. :)
