There are ways, just hadn't finished reading it yet

Basically you have to remove XPSP3, then remove IE7, then you can upgrade to XPSP3, then upgrade to IE7. If you do it that way, you can remove IE7 at will. Details as to why in the article.

its the MS way - ass backwards - or a way to keep ie on the machine and therefore think you will use it
