Not sure if anyone has had this type of problem.
I recently bought a second system with AS Rock, KTVM2 mobo,
Crmss CD/CDRW, AOpen DVD (x12) 128MB Ram, Athlon1700+ processor.Savage On board Video and AC97 Onboard Sound.
No problem with the sound at that point.
Then removed the AC97 sound in Device Manager , rebooted as normal to disable all sound entries in The Bios.then closed down.
Fitted an old Creative PCI 128 Sound card, to enable sound connection to the CDRW and DVD Drives( the latter being fitted afterwards.
CD Sound 80% OK , but wav general sound very scratchy and distorted. worse with increased volume to above 40%,with sound replay speed up and down.
Replaced card with new 4.1 Creative card , same problem. change of speakers, no difference.
All XP audio settings checked and normal.
Digital sound support enabled for CDRW through Device manager but not DVD drive ,as not supported.
DVD had been used on previous system with no problems.
Wavetable software supplied with 4.1 card has no adjustment to help this ,and general volume adjustments to back off mic settings to prevent feedback etc taken into account.
Any one know the answer?
