Not sure how many of you know this, so: NASA was preparing to send their first astronauts into space. Among other things, one problem that cropped up was that of writing in space. How could the ink flow down the pen when there was no gravity ? This problem really stumped them. So a team of scientists began working on a specialized pen with a miniature pump to ensure that the pen worked in zero-gravity conditions. The R&D cost on that pen was around a million dollars.Soon after the Cold War , NASA scientists asked the Russians how they got around this problem.Scroll down and read the answer  "There was no problem" , the Russians said, "We just used pencils"
