    Hello
When I click on Standby (from Start Menu, then Turn off computer option) nothing happens.. can anyone help? What might have caused the Standby function not to work?

    Many thanks

Check in Control Panel, Power options - make sure you don't have the standby setting set to 'Never'

damnit - I had a long thread on this issue that is lost now...

then again mine was just for the screens powersaves option...

so probably a totally different issue - are you sure you want to just standby in that way? It is far more usual to use standby from the powersave options if you feel somewhat "green" - although I would commend hibernate as more suitable for saving juice it does indeed have it's own issues and there are those who will totally refuse to use hibernation (even at this time of year :p)

    Tell us more about:-
what you are doing (and maybe why)
what you are doing it with (h/w and os)

then we'll probably get it sorted
