when i start my computer it sometimes takes a few minutes for my computer to kick in, its only been recently formatted so its smooth and clean but after i restart it takes a good few minutes for task bar programs such as messenger and fixitutilities to startup. but they should be starting up instantly, why is it doing this?

Try running msconfig and see if there's maybe something that's starting that shouldn't be. Might could also try MS bootvis program to speed things up a bit.

    Correcting System Hang at Startup

If your system hangs about 2 or 3 minutes at startup, where you can't access the Start button or the Taskbar, it may be due to one specific service (Background Intelligent Transfer) running in the background. Microsoft put out a patch for this but
it didn't work for me. Here's what you do:

    1. Go to the control panel\administrative tools\services
    2. Find the 'Background Intelligent Transfer' service, disable it, apply the changes & reboot.

Also if not on a network disable 'workstation' at the same place as above.
