My computer had XP preinstalled with a weather bug program on it. My wife also installed AOL Messenger (AIM) on the computer and they both launch at start-up. I am trying to remove these. I have tried the start file, they are not found, and I have also tried msconfig however when I uncheck them in the startup area and restart the computer I get a box saying its running in another mode and I must return all programs back to full startup. (Sorry dont remember the full correct language)

Anyone know of another way besides the registry and/or deleting them to remove them from startup?

    Thanks.

Here's a little program (free and very stable) that may solve your start-up problem. It has worked for me, and has never given me any sort of error or crash. Link provided as a courtesy:
