What can I do with this?

Had thought that I could use it as an extra IDE channel, but it appears not....

Anyone know if this can be done?

    I take it it's a RAID controller?

The answer is yes, but only for hdd:s. Not CD or DVD drives or ZIP or anything.

yup. its the raid controller on my mobo.

when i connect a hdd to it the drive appears as a SCSI disk and can't be accessed in windows

I think i can use a cdrw (liteon) cause Nero spotted it as a scsi device, but i never tested it :(

The disk may show up as a SCSI-device. Have you assigned it a drive letter in Windows? Are the RAID drivers installed?

    Drivers are installed.

How do I assign it a drive letter? (?Disk Management?)

It appears in device manager as a SCSI disk/drive but not under My Computer, so I can't access it

Second Hdd now on RAID controller.

Appears in devioce manager as a SCSI disk device. Cant seem to do anything with it though :(

Tried to see it through disk management but it's not there. Promise software cant find it. The RAID bios can see it, but wants to setup an array. Will allow me to stripe but not mirror.

Can I setup an array on one disk?

Nope you'll need two. This sounds really strange. Is it possible to get newer drivers from Promise?

    running latest drivers from msi.

Promise don't do drivers, just chips.

Contacting MSi to get help from them, but it's looking like it might just be RAID controller and nothing else.

If I can find a spare hdd I'll try and setup a single disk array lke it seems to want to let me.
