    I only have a P III 667 with 512 megs of PC 133 RAM, do you think the Prefetcher tweak would work for me?

    you know, there are a couple of prefetcher tweaks...if you're talking about clearing or dissabling the prefetcher file...I don't think either of those ideas will work for anybody

    ah, you mean this;

    Prefetcher Tweak
    (by Crapito)

    This is an unique technique for XP, which could improve the performance significantly by tweaking the prefetcher. Recommended hardware: PIII 800 or higher, 512M RAM or more.

    1. run "regedit";
    2. go to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters\EnablePrefetcher
    3. Set the value to either 0-Disable, 1-App launch prefetch, 2-Boot Prefetch, 3-Both ("3" is recommended).
    4. reboot.

    It will decrease the boot time but double and increase the performance of your XP. Try it!

    ...mine was already set to 3...I think that's the default

    I PMed Crapito about this.
    -I'd like to know as well, as I have a 600.

    hey guys... glad to know my tweak is getting a little attention. :)

    as for an answer... I don't know how the performance will be with a slower, ie 600 MHz, system. I've only tried it on 1GHz+ machines. I have 2 slower systems, a P166 and Celeron 450a, but neither runs XP as both are too slow. sorry... :(

    The default setting for prefetch is 3. In all but the rarest of cases it should be left at 3. If I were you smoke, that's what I'd do.
