I just got and ran SiSoft Sandra. It tells me my mainboard temp is 220 degrees C. I'll assume that's bad - and can it truly be that hot?

That is definately not a correct reading. That would be 428 F. That is almost the flash point of paper. That would burn your finger if you touched it. You would be able to bake a cake on it.
