New NTFS Hard Drive

What procedures do I take to format a (bare) second NTFS hard drive in my XP Pro system - I want to clone the 1st hard drive. I know how to use fdisk - format for win 98/me.


After the hard DRIVE is setup with NTFS can I use explorer in save mode to copy the files over.


Does XP Pro has a swap file WIN386.SWP ????

Welcome to NTFS

you can do this from the Disk Management console
My Computer / properties / manage / Disk Management

right click on the new drive & create

Yes XP has a SwapFile its now called a PageFile

the best place for the PageFile is on your new disk in its own partition.

If you want to make a backup of your boot drive
your better off using a third party program such as Norton Ghost or my personal favourite PowerQuest DriveImage 2002

Yeah I did this with Norton Ghost as well. Worked very well. Make sure you use clone instead of image.
