Networking Problemos!

I have recently bought a Etherfast Cable/DSL router from Linksys model BEFsr41 (4 port) and I want to know how to setup my router so that A.) I can still send and recieve files on mIRC chat client, B.) AIM ( sometimes this works and sometimes it doesnt) c.) FTP CLIENT, D.) Basically be able to send and recieve files freely, but still retain some security.

I have enabled my IP in the DMZ host but I am still noticing some problems can anyone educate me?

Forward Ports.

The port/range that you need to forward is usually specified somehwere in the application's preferences. Check the documentation on setting the port/port range, then consult the router's manual on how to forward that range

Using DMZ will effectively nullify any extra security the router gives you. Port mapping is the answer.
