My mic option in XP is disabled

I have a Soyo motherboard with a spdif card that came with it and for some reason I can't use my mic, its grayed out in the options in sounds on my taskbar... Does anyone know how to eneble this ?

How many speakers have you got your system set up for? More speakers means less options.

I've got two speakers right now and thats the setup I have in the sounds properties...

Under playback everything is good, but under recording both mic and mono in are grayed out. any help? someone?
