Since Messaging Service is disabled with SP2 and Windows Messenger removed, is there a way of sending a message to over peers on the same network (apart from re-enabling Messaging Service)?

ming, not unless you enable the service. The service will work for its intended purpose when used on a network.

once i found a program on download.com that sent popup alerts to other computers and all you needed was the program and other comp's ip addy... forgot what it was called. worth searching though
