When I run 1 module of 256 Mb DDR I have no problems. When I try to run two I get an unstable machine, or I get the message "page fault in non-paged area". Both modules work perfectly when they're running by themselves. I also can't increase the maximum memory size in 'msconfig' from 256 to 512. Is there some connection there?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Does both sticks have same CL? Is both sticks of the same brand? could be a issue about that! Also check bios settings,,could be a bios "setting" issue!

About the maximum memory size try this :

Try this mate : Start\settings\control panel\system\click in on the Advanced tab\now notice the performace in on the settings tab next to that! You are then inside the Performace option! You got 2 tabs in there VISUAL EFFECTS and the ADVANCED in on the advanced tab...notice at the bottom of that window VIRTUAL MEMORY try change the "Total Paging File For All Drives to 512! Im not sure that will help.. but its worth a try!

Do you get any beep codes during POST, or just the normal one beep.

No error beep codes and the diagnostic LEDs light up showing all-clear upon boot up.
The system will either attempt to boot and just before the windows logo appears I get the "page fault in non-paged area" message, or the system boots and looks fine until I attempt to open a program. The program will load, but then when I go to initiate anything task in the program the system hangs and has to be restarted with the reset key.
