    Since having changed from Win98 I find WMP8 to to be of somewhat lower visual quality when playing AVI files. Certainly far worse than 98.
    The AVI files also look the same when using Power DVD, so it may be a codec problem.
    The avi files were shot on a DVcam and imported via firewire, would this generate a different type of avi file, requiring a different codec?

    Anyone experienced this? Nothing has changed in the computer but the OS.

    well, the divx 5 codecs have some kinda bug, and going back to 4.12 did the job for me atleast.

    Cheers Andy I'll give that a go.
    I tried downloading some reguluar avi files and they play fine - must be to do with the fact that they are DV format avi files.
