Lost Icons in Office Task bar

I have a small but annoying problem with the icons in the Microsoft office shortcut bar. I run Office XP Professional and find the shortcut bar useful but suddenly for no apparent reason the icons have changed to question marks. I have done a repair install of Office but it made no difference. Has anybody else had this problem and know how to resolve it. Thanks for reading.

Try Right-Clicking the toolbar, but in a space/gap between two icons (not easy) then Refresh Icons. Tell me if it does the trick...

I did try that before but no luck, had another go after your suggestion but all I have is the three balloon's with a ? mark.

I mean in the properties>change icon.

and the icons are not where they were

No I don't think you are right. I have just uninstalled the programme and then re-installed but this did not cure the problem. I think I'll give up and do without it.
I did look in properties/change icon but there is no information there and the icon change is greyed out, the only key I can press is the advanced which when I clicked on it shows nothing it is blank.
