Lost Both CD drives

Hope someone can help me!, I downloaded the virus fix from Symatec, followed the instructions, and the bull*.*. happened.
rebooted the computer, and no cd drives. I know it has to do will some settings in windows xp pro, because cmos shows all the drives, and I can even boot from the drive. I sure don't want to reload windows, I'll lose all my programs. I know someone at the forum can help.

could try a repair job, just boot from the xp cd and look for repair or just do a upgrade install, same thing really.

Go to Start/Control Panel /Administrative Tools >/Computer Management, Disk Management, then see if you can see your cd rom's. If so reassign them a drive letter.

BTW

if you do a repair install you wont lose any programs or shortcuts

Boot from CD

Hit enter to go into setup / F8 I agree / R - repair /

it takes about 30 mins depending on your machine & you will need to enter your volume key

the only draw back is all your XP updates & patches will be gone

unless you do a repair with an XP-SP1 slipstreamed disk
