reformatted, cleaned my iBook right out. So im now keeping things very simple. Icons are Snow.E2 you can get them from xicons.com

ps. Should the desktop screenies thread not be moved, seen as it holds screens from more than just windows desks... i dunno, just a thought.

I really like that look. Makes me want to make my own again but I have a question first. How do you add links to your sections? Do you have to do it manually like open up the page file and add it? I was thinking about making a database driven one where you could add links to different sections through a little input box somewhere on the page. What's your input on that? Has it been done?

Actually, in the latest version of my active desktop, it IS database driven, since I wrote it completely in XML (transformed into HTML thanks to XSL).
Once the xsl transformation rules have been written, building a web page is much easier, and my xml file contains rougly data, ie: the content of my page, and not the layout.

So basically, to answer your question, updating/adding links is still a matter of updating a file (and will remain as such since we're looking at keeping the desktop as independant as possible from external tools like samurize, coolmon ...), but it "looks" much simpler.

While you'd have to look for <a href=""><img src=""></a> tags in html, lost somewhere into your layout tags (tables, tr's, td's, div's ...), I rather do this in xml (free of layout data) :

<TextLink URL="notepad.exe">Notepad</TextLink>
or
<ImageLink URL="winword.exe" Src="app_msword.gif" />

Much more readable isn't it ? Expect to hear more about this soon
