I don't have any spare IDE ports left and want to add another 2 IDE devices to my PC.

    Is this what I need?

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=2982&GroupID=0

I'm unsure as to whether I need RAID or is that an optional feature of the card?

I plan on adding a 200GB HD to the controller card and a 2nd DVD Writer.

Also will the devices work just as fast from the PCI controller card as they do from the actual motherboard IDE interface?

    Thanks.

that card would work fine for what you are wanting to do.

Am I better off adding the new 200GB HD as Primary Slave or as a Master drive on the PCI IDE Controller Card?

I don't think it matters, but I'd set it as master.

Can't you keep the DVD drive on one of the mobo ports instead?

    I could.

So these controller cards only work with Hard Drives and not optical drives, even the Promise card?

I don't know if that goes for all cards, but it goes for many of them.
