Not sure if you guys'll be able to help, but the iPodLounge forum refuses to let me post for some bizarre reason, so here it is:

    My iPods been playing up.

I didn’t have a firewire port, so I bought the USB cable and I’ve been using that. When my pay came in, I bought a firewire control card – and this is where the story unfolds.

The iPod is now plugged into it. I can access it as a drive fine, but iTunes doesn’t show it, and the update software gives the error ‘Cannot mount iPod’ – I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the software – but nothing.

How can I fix this? It’s a 3G 20gb iPod. I’ll post anything else that needs to be known as requested. Also wasnt entirely sure what forum to put this in, but its not really a Mac problem, is it?

The advice was to format the drive - which I did via the drop-down menu in the My Computer - since the updateer program wont work since it wont 'mount'.

    Didnt work.

Anything else? This has bound to happened to more people than me.

try moving your firewire card to another pci slot, or using that card on another pc, if it doesnt work then that means the card is messed up
