Is there a way to get rid of search and get the old find files interface back. I have tried a few 3rd party and they are much worse, I just want a simple "find this file" interface back, no bells and whistles required.

    Open up gpedit.msc
    User Configuration Node
    Administrative Templates Folder
    Start Menu and Taskbar Folder
9th one down - Remove Serach menu from Start Menu
    Double Click, and Then Disable

Should Work if that's what your looking for

Not realy, I want the stupid animated character gone and the nice and simple find files interface on 98 back, something that when it completes a search you don't have to hit back. Why did they make such a simple task so bloody hard.

Use PowerDesk by Ontrack. It's an explorer replacement
that has a much better search program than XP's. I believe
    there is a free version.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but TweakUI
(wich is part of Powertoy's for XP) has an option "Use Classic Search in Explorer".
You can download it from this site (mainpage under "Free XP addons").

Wish I would have known about this one sooner... I guess I'll have to quit grumbling at some of these new 'features' and ask if there's a way to change it. Kudos Static 99 - thnx. :D
