    Dont know if you guys can help me ....but what would cause my PC to dump all its memory to the page and constantly write to disk ...causing everything to grind to a halt :((

    do you know if you have any programs that could do that ?!

    Just another thing i have noticed it only does it when the Pc is idle...if i am using it alls fine...but if i leave it doing nothing for 10 mins it happens...up untill then i thought that maybe it was a Hardware prob...but now i dont know ?

    XP perfoms some tasks when idle i.e. not otherwise used. The indexing service is busy, systemrestore creates its daily restorepoint and so on. That may be the explanation.

    I'm not sure I completely understand the first part of the question, but go to System Properties - Advanced Tab - Startup & Recovery Settings and where it says Write Debugging Information set it to: None
