Not sure what happened, but my video files no longer show a
thumbnail previews of what the video is. Now when in thumbnail
mode all it shows is the icon of the applacation the file is
associated with. Also, when I click on a file it no longer shows
a picture preview in the details section on the left. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Glenn

reinstall winxp over your current installation?

Is there any downside in doing that?

Are your video-folders by chance compressed? Then there would be no thumbnailview. Does thumbnailview for pictures work?

No they are not compressed. Yes, the thumbnail view works with
my pictures. If I move a picture into the folder where the videos
are and turn on thumbanil view the picture file has a thumbnail
preview, but the video files don't.
