Halo 2 PC/ Only on Vista

So basically, we're wishing for a perfect world from the consumer's standpoint here. Fair enough. Just don't expect that utopia to come along anytime soon, that's all. I don't know about you, but I think being idealistic in the real world only leads to disappointment and a constant reason to complain about every little thing (as we've seen in this thread).

Accept the world for all the sh*t that it contains (including the fact that you have to shell out some cash now and then for stuff), and you'll be a happier man. :D

I'm apathetic. Plus I read the funny pages every morning. That way ya live longer. :p

I just wish a lot, out loud. :D

This thread did get interesting though.

Good Nite. :)

Here is my question.

Why did Bungie never port it to PC, or design it for PC in the first place? Halo was great on PC and there is a massive market for story-based FPS with multiplayer... I find it silly that its been out for what, almost two years? And they haven't bothered to port it to the biggest gaming platform ever. The gaming platform that keeps the industry booming!

Some more thoughts of mine.. why are they going to port a version to Vista using DX10 (will this be 64 bit compatible?) when the game doesnt even utilize DX9 properly IIRC. What will the game offer that we havent already seen on Xbox? I think its sad that they believe they can milk $50 out of us after nearly two years of the game already being released. I think they should just say f*** it and move on to a third rendition of Halo and perhaps bundle Halo 2 in if you bought the first Halo PC or something. I mean, Microsoft can do whatever they want, they've proven that several times over, but I still think their approach to this is rather anti-gamer. And Vista is all about gaming, right? This all just makes me rather confused.

What can they possibly do to Halo 2 to make it worthy of DX10? Add HDR or something? Lets hear it

Just when I thought this was over...
Well, I've already said what I wanted to say...more than once. Have fun beating this one to death, guys. :D

OMG, all this over a GAME, a FRICK'N GAME!

"oh no, i can't play halo 2 on XP". Cry me a river already

Gen3ric: uuh....
Halo was great on PC.
what? are you NUTS! yeah.. it was fun to play, but that's only IF you could play it. that thing was a freakin resource hog for it's time when it was released. and you wanna know why they have such a long delay between it being released on a console, and ported to PC? well... they have to make money off of it somehow, don't they? you think MS would make a lot of money if it were made for both PC and Xbox at the same time? no. people would probably buy the game for PC instead of for their $300 console. they keep it console only for quite some time.... because they know people are sheepish. they'll do anything for their "Precious" Halo. pfft. Halo was old news when the first one was released.

The 2006 Acura TL has an iPod port. My 2005 TL doesn't. Why won't they add it to my 2005? Oh, the functionality isn't built into the 2005 model. That's why.

Deal with it. Get over it. And move on.

Either buy Vista or don't play the game. It's that simple. We've made strong points and the fact is you can't change what Microsoft does.

I own shares of stock so I'll be sure to mention it at the next stock holder meeting that some of you aren't happy with their decision.

Also be sure to mention that we want full Vista support for Microsoft Bob.

MS making Halo2 to run ONLY on VISTA is no different than the game developers making sure the games only run on certain consoles, or that they will not make or allow others to make the game run on other consoles.

WHY is that difficult to undertsand?

I dont get it, its an MS product, they wholly OWN the product, they can take their product and go home, kinda like some other people wanna take their ball....

Life ain't fair people.. deal with it, or use a short rope off a LOOOOONG Pier...

Actually, when all is said and done, do we really want Halo 2 on the PC, considering that Halo 1 was a pile of buggy, self decapitating, hogwash piece of code that barely worked on most hardware builds and worked slowly on new technology builds.

To me I wouldn't care if Halo 2 was pulled out of development, set on fire, sent in, sent back, and finally buried and turned into soft peat for 3 months.

The more important issue is Vista itself. Is Microsoft turning to more cuthroat Siren-esh tactics to make people upgrade straight away rather than skip an OS or two which is what happened in the old days (I skilled 98 to goto XP and left ME to rust for example).

As porn drives new internet technology.. so gaming drives new hardware (and OS) technology.

No. DirectX 10 is, as of this time, supposed to be a Vista-only. However, it includes a compatibility layer that allows DX9-based apps to run on it. That part wasn't included in the December CTP release, but it's coming. So DX9 games should have no problems running with the DX10 runtimes installed.

Phew. Gonaads had me worried about my BF2. :)

Happy Friday all, excellent thread.

Well Halo first started on the mac and was going to be released on that platform but Microsoft stepped in.
Anyway whose fault is it that Halo is buggy on PC? The OS? Or the devs?
There are quite a few games on XP that run just fine. So bungie needs to step up and since its vista only and dx10 then it better kick some serious ass. Halo 2 on the Xbox was marginally better than the first one. Well we all made our points and I agree and disagree with some. All in all great stuff.:smoker:

Terrahertz, how does Halo 2 run on XBOX 360 compared to the original XBOX?

It just seems smoother on the 360 because the anti-aliasing is turned on.

I was just curious. I've never actually played the game, but I've seen it in action.

Actually you can. :D

It will still run over the audio bus like the MP3 player, XM radio, etc. Plus it's an accessories item not standard on 2006 models, $250.00 plus Dealer install cost on the 2006 models. It has been tested on the 2005 TSX with an Ipod mini. I have seen postings on many of the Acura forums. Was also tested on 04' Acura TL. iPod Shuffle is not supported.

Errrrrrrr, ooooops
