Hey guys, I recently realized that my linux box has been running in 100base Full Duplex but I have a full gigabit setup (switch as well). Here is the output from ethtool:

    Code:
    GOPHER:/etc/network# ethtool eth0
    Settings for eth0:
            Supported ports: [ MII ]
            Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                    100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                    1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full
            Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
            Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                    100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                    1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full
            Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
            Speed: 100Mb/s
            Duplex: Full
            Port: Twisted Pair
            PHYAD: 1
            Transceiver: internal
            Auto-negotiation: on
            Supports Wake-on: g
            Wake-on: d
            Current message level: 0x000000ff (255)
            Link detected: yes

So as you can see the card does in fact support Gigabit, but I dont know how to change the config so that it will use it. Any light that can be spread on this would be very appreciated. I have done google searches and I cant find anything on actually changing this setting.

    Thanks guys!

Well, I managed to figure it out. If anyone cares to know this is how I did it.

    ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000

    just that simple.... :)

-s actually allows you to change all sorts of settings. Now I get trasfers in the 500Mb range! woohoo!
