Ok, so I've not exactly been keeping up to date with XP recently, and now there's a Windows machine in my computer room, I need to know what you would all recommend as the essential apps to install (i.e. to keep the machine protected, etc)

    So... fire away :)

Fx and Opera were put on there first thing, didn't want to ruin it by opening IE6. :p

Will try get Windows Defender, and the others you mentioned (Already have AVG) some time later tonight :)

Eudora for Email (unless Mozill/Firefox has one built in I don't know about).

Ccleaner (you don't need it yet, but you will...)

    Regcleaner (same as above)

    Hijack this (same as above)

And a firewall that stops outbound traffic as well as inbound. Not sure if defender does that yet or not. The least offensive I have to offer is Zonealarm.

Archivers - Winzip, WinAce and WinRAR since something that is incompatible with the other 2 will always come up.

FTP - Server and client (G6, Cuteftp)

This is what I use; except Opera, kerio, and outpost. I use the windows firewall.

I never had diverticulosis so I never ate high fiber food. Then after 4 surgeries, 26 days in the hospital and $200k in medical bills I now understand what prevention is all about...

Have got most of what was recommended installed now :)

Is there a free outgoing traffic blocker? I used to use Krio Personal firewall, but that's now payware, and looks rather crappy.
