DVD-R writing problems

I have the new DVD-RW drive by pioneer DVR-104 and 2 burning programs Nero 5.5.8.0 and InstantCD+DVD 6.4. Any effort I make to write a dvd the maximum writing speed I get is 1x. With Nero that is the maximum that I can select. With the Instant I can choose between 1x and 2x and although I select 2x it shows the remaining time is 28 minutes but it takes exactly twice as if I was writing at 1x speed. Also say that the current speed mode is 1x before I start writing. Any help please because it is very annoying to wait 1 hour for a dvd to be ready. Also the latest firmware has been tried with no use at all.

The problem is you can only achieve 2x with high quality media and if the program does not require a test burn...sorry man it comes with the territory..but hey your storing 4.7 gigs so there are always gonna be some downsides
